As a board-certified orthodontic specialist, I am committed to helping my patients with all their orthodontic needs. I am proud to offer FREE consultations with panoramic and cephalometric x-rays, pictures, and digital 3D scans, and 3D CBCT’s for patients of all ages. With so many orthodontic treatment options, I will help you sift through clutter, discuss multiple options and select what fits your lifestyle and individual needs. With 20 years of experience in the clinical trenches, I personally see each patient at each visit to ensure they receive the best possible care and outcome. After Covid-19, I decided to lower our prices since quality orthodontics should be performed by trained orthodontists that perform a clinical exam, take not only pictures but also very special Xrays, offer multiple options to not only align the teeth but correct bites, provide stability, periodontal health, help with good night sleep/breathing and most importantly achieve facial balance and harmony.
My Educational Background
Born, raised, and college-educated in Europe-Romania, I won a diversity visa lottery in 1995 and, with it, the right to immigrate legally to the U.S. In 1999, I earned my doctorate of dental medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and my certificate in orthodontics from Children’s National Hospital/George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 2001. I proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a general dentist and captain from 2001 to 2004 and again as a board certified contractor in Kaiserslautern, Germany, between 2015 and 2016 during a working sabbatical.
Dedication to Continual Study
I strive to be an open-minded clinician. In doing so, I’ve committed myself to providing outstanding service to my patients and also to incorporating new and effective techniques into my practice. We use just about anything that can move teeth and jaws faster and more predictable: We tried them all, we know what works and what does not. In addition to being board-certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, I attend numerous orthodontic educational courses every year and try to incorporate the best of everything in the quest for helping our patients achieve a perfect smile.
My Treatment Approach
“Everyone smiles in the same language,” or to quote Marylin Monroe, “A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear.” It is more powerful than plastic surgery. It is an investment that will benefit our patients for a lifetime.
When designing new smiles, we plan to enhance all the facial features and create harmony between facial beauty and a healthy dentition. My extensive training and experience can help patients as young as age seven eliminate the need for permanent teeth extractions and avoid surgical and restorative procedures in later years.
My niche is designing new smiles in the context of a better face and breathing! I also love treating adult patients with complex orthodontic, periodontal, and jaw disharmony problems in an interdisciplinary setting — collaborating with your general dentist and other specialists such as periodontists and oral surgeons. I am also helping severe OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) patients minimize their dependency on CPAP machines, get a new smile, a more harmonious jawline, enjoy a good night’s sleep and better quality of life.
My interdisciplinary practice specializes in implant therapy performed by our associates via sedation, orthopedic palatal expansion in children and adults, orthodontics for adults and children, diagnosis and management of jaw deficiencies in patients with sleep apnea and congenitally missing and impacted teeth, as well as those seeking TMJ/TMD treatment. I also offer Propel MOPS (micro osseous perforations) and VPro high-frequency vibration devices, besides surgically facilitated orthodontic therapy (Wilckodontics®) with bone grafting to speed up and increase predictability of treatment, avoid the need for extractions, and enhance the bone and gum support for better aesthetics and stable function for years to come for moderate to extremely difficult cases.
In my little spare time, I take great pride in taking care of my three children: Julia, Alex, and Johnny. They all had expanders and braces and, for the most part, were compliant. They continue to floss and wear removable retainers years after their brace removal. Julia, my right-hand and personal secretary, recently graduated virtually from Hinsdale Central High School “magna cum laude” and prepares for an early Ph.D. in Psychology. As for myself, the product of a languages teacher and a civil engineer in construction, I was bitten by the decorating and remodeling bug early on in life. Since then, I’ve dabbled in all kinds of DIY projects involving but not limited to new buildings, remodeling my offices, house, etc.
Outside of these commitments, I enjoy the simple things in life, such as sewing, baking, cooking, sampling ethnic restaurants, international travel, and riding my white scooter from spring till fall. When possible, I enjoy the occasional walk in our local forest preserves and also fishing and rollerblading with my kids.
